ASU fans urged to wear camouflage to first home game

MONTGOMERY, AL -

Hornets fans are encouraged to wear camouflage to the first home football game of the 2013 season as part of the theme, "It's Hunting Season!" The Alabama State Hornets will take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at The New ASU Stadium on Saturday, August 31 at 5 p.m.

Student leaders helped coin the theme as a fun way to bring the ASU family together.

Zia Hymes-Green, an ASU student who works with the SGA's event planning team, said the theme is intended to drum up school spirit for the Hornets' quest to beat the Gamecocks.

"We really want students, alumni and fans of ASU to get enthusiastic and really go over the top with their camouflage, ASU apparel and anything they can do to show that we have that ‘Ole Bama State Spirit' and we want to beat the Gamecocks," Green said.

T-shirts and other hunting season-themed items will be distributed to the student body and will be made available for fans to purchase. The pre-game show, which is being coordinated by ASU's Theatre Arts Department, also will incorporate the theme.

Green said she hopes that the theme for the first game will be a trendsetter.

"This is the first year that we are doing something like this, so we have to set the bar high," Green said. "I can't wait to see what the first game is going to be like because ASU has really pulled out all the stops in bringing this theme to life and getting everybody pumped up to beat the Gamecocks."
