Overnight stabbing at UT outside fraternity building

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

At least two people were injured after a stabbing overnight at the University of Toledo involving a group of men.

The stabbing happened around 3 a.m. outside the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity building at McComas Village. Campus police say about a half dozen men started fighting at an off-campus bar and somehow ended up outside the fraternity building, where at least one pulled out a knife. They say it involved students and non-students, but none of them are members of the fraternity.

"We looked outside and then we saw all the cops, and we had no idea what was going on. And all of a sudden, people started coming in," said Brandon Romer.

According to court documents, Domenic Hudson is the suspect and is now in the Lucas County Jail. Cody Halka was stabbed in the abdomen.

Both were taken to the hospital. Halka was taken with non-life-threatening injuries. Hudson was taken just to be examined.

According to police, when Hudson tried to drive away from the scene, a police chase ensued. However, he was apprehended and is currently in custody.

Drugs and alcohol are believed to be a factor in the stabbing, which is still under investigation.

"What would have been a drunken fight turned out to be a little bit more serious because somebody had a knife and mixed alcohol and a weapon," said UT Police Chief Jeff Newton.

Court documents say Hudson is facing charges of felonious assault, resisting arrest for sending officers on a chase, and failure to comply. He is due in court Monday morning.

According to a campus e-mail alert sent to students, police are not looking for more suspects at this time. However, police on the scene said there is a possibility of more arrests.

The University of Toledo says Hudson is a freshmen student at the school.
