Bearcats' season opener sold out

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Tickets for the University of Cincinnati football team's 2013 season opener against Purdue at Nippert Stadium are sold out to the general public, Director of Athletics Whit Babcock announced Monday.

The Bearcats are scheduled to open the campaign at noon ET Saturday with a "whiteout" against the visiting Boilermakers broadcast nationally on ESPNU.  Fans are encouraged to come early, be loud and wear white.

A limited number of student overflow tickets priced at $15 apiece will be made available beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 8 a.m. These tickets are only available to UC students and may only be ordered online at CATSTIX.com beginning at 8am while supplies last.  No tickets will be sold or distributed at the athletic ticket office.

"I am so excited by the enthusiasm shown by the city of Cincinnati, our alumni and fans.  Our students have also really stepped up and their attendance should help push Saturday's crowd to a record level," Head Coach Tommy Tuberville said. "I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in the stands well before kickoff for what is going to be one heck of an environment.  I can't wait.  Our guys are hungry to play."

UC's last sellout occurred on Oct. 6, 2012 when a homecoming crowd of 35,097 filled the stands to watch the Bearcats defeat rival Miami (Ohio) for the Victory Bell. The all-time attendance record of 35,106 was set against Illinois on Nov. 27, 2009, a 49-36 UC win.

"We should have the largest crowd in the history of Nippert Stadium here on Saturday," Babcock said. "Demand for tickets from our donors, alumni and fans has been tremendous. The way we've configured our student section as general admission seating enables us to get over 35,000 in here. We'll do it safely, but we want to break the attendance record. I'm confident we will. With the noon kickoff and so many people converging on campus in such a small window of time, I can't emphasize how important it will be for people to arrive on campus early."

All gameday information can be found at www.gobearcats.com/gameday.html.

The game will be nationally televised by ESPNU and aired live on 700 WLW AM with Dan Hoard, Jim Kelly, Jr., Tom Gelehrter and Mo Egger calling the action.

With the excitement surrounding the 2013 season, fans interested in securing tickets for all of UC's remaining home games should consider purchasing prorated season tickets. They start as low as $105 and include tickets for each of the remaining five home games against Northwestern State, Temple, UConn, SMU and Louisville.

With the sellout of the game versus Purdue, the previously announced Red Mini Plan is also now sold out. A very limited number of the Black Mini Plan remains available for $75 which includes tickets for the UConn and Louisville games only.

Please visit CATSTIX.com or call 1-877-CATS-TIX to order your tickets today.
