2 Spring Hill men sent to prison on rights pleas

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (AP) - Two young Tennessee men will go to prison on their guilty pleas to federal civil rights violations.

Twenty-year-old Dakota James Calderhead and 19-year-old Kristian Chancelor Mathis were sentenced in U.S. District Court at Nashville on Aug. 23 to six months in prison. Calderhead and Mathis live in Spring Hill, near two black families who they pleaded guilty to intimidating.

The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/14YQHQK ) reported that, after their release, both will be supervised for two years and confined to their homes for the first six months of that time. They also must pay $692 in victim restitution.

Investigators found spray-painted slurs and nooses in December 2011.

The court recommended Calderhead be imprisoned near family members in Brazil, Ind., and Mathis be sent to a prison near Rhome, Texas, for the same reason.
