KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
The West Bottoms area has been scaring Kansas Citians for more than 30 years with the four haunted houses it has every fall. But in order to truly cause fear, you have to have the right kind of people.
It's not the kind of job interview Alisha Spragg was exactly expecting - or maybe it was.
"I do dedicate a lot to the character. I've been doing the zombie for six years," she said.
The Beast haunted house is well-known for being one of the most entertaining stops come Halloween but, in order to scare folks, organizers have to find the right people to do the scaring.
"We're looking for different character traits as well as voice inflection," said Amber Arnett Bequeaith with The Beast.
While auditions aren't exactly an American Idol competition, you've got to know what you're doing.
"I was in car-evil so, if you are watching, I probably scared you," said Leneall Crayton of Raytown, MO.
"I came to the haunted houses as a kid. I thought that would just be the coolest job ever," said Dustin Matz of Kansas City, KS.
One person auditioning said he's one of the scariest people around!
"I love scaring people. I got a loud voice, a loud mouth, all that stuff," said Tim Price.
The Beast is looking to hire dozens of scary, screaming and creepy crawly workers for the next few months. They say if you like to scare people and you've got it, they want to meet you.
"We're looking for all different kinds of ability, but it's also about having stamina (because people have to go) from when we open ‘til when we close," Bequeaith said. "We're always looking for a little fresh blood."
The Beast is not only looking for actors, but they are also looking for other help, like to man the parking lot and concessions.
