BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Two people were sent to the hospital after a semi and car crashed on southbound Interstate 75 near U.S. Route 6.

Police say the accident happened at 2:30 Friday morning when the driver of the car rear-ended the semi truck. Both vehicles flipped on their sides, trapping the passenger in the car. The semi then caught fire.

An officer who witnessed the crash was able to put out the fire, and free three people involved in the crash.

According to police, the driver and passenger of the car were not wearing their seatbelts. They were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi had minor injuries and refused medical care.

The driver of the car was cited for driving under the influence.

The crash blocked one southbound lane of I-75 for a few hours while crews worked to clean debris.
