MARKSVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

A high school and elementary school were put on lock down in Marksville, LA Friday morning after reports of a man making threats on campus. The lock down was lifted around 1 p.m. and the children were allowed to go home with their parents who were waiting outside of the school.

The situation started around 11 a.m. Friday.

According to KALB in Alexandria, LA, the Superintendent of the school says a man went to the high school and threatened the school secretary.

Authorities say the suspect was a relative of a faculty member at the school. Reports say the man walked into the building and demanded money from the secretary. When she said no to the man, reports say he made a threat that school officials thought was credible enough to put the school on lock down.

The man walked out of the school and the authorities were called.

School officials say law enforcement went room to room, clearing each room, making sure there was no threat. When all was clear, the students were able to leave the school.

Streets near the school are still blocked off and the man has not been found at this time.

Law enforcement searched the man's vehicle and found no weapons. Authorities have not released a description of the suspect.

Marksville, LA is about two hours northwest of Baton Rouge.
