INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -

They had a bit of a rough patch Sunday as storms rolled through the metro and knocked down some tents, but it couldn't have been a more perfect finish, weather-wise, for Independence's Santa-Cali-Gon Days.

It was crowded on the Independence square for the final day, but attendees had no trouble navigating the crowds to seek out some good food and drink at places like Good Time Charlie's, known for its fried curly chips.

"Everybody comes by and says how much they love it and none of the other stands have it like we do", said Aaron Siegel of Good Time Charlie's.

Just across the street, a rare find with a tropical twist - a frozen pineapple treat in limited release.

"It's a product that's only served in Walt Disney World, Disneyland and the Dole plantation, said Jerome Patience who was serving up the Dole Pineapple Whip. "I did a little research, found out where we can get our hands on it, and brought it to Santa-Cali-Gon."

And, what would any festival be without barbecue?

A Little BBQ Joint, the actual name of the business, served up plenty of barbecue along with some tasty sauces.

This weekend marked the 41st annual Santa-Cali-Gon Days, marking Independence's unique heritage as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California and Oregon trails.
