TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Six Alabama players were recognized by the coaching staff for their outstanding performances following Saturday's win over Virginia Tech.
Christion Jones was named a player of the week both on offense and special teams. Anthony Steen was the other honoree on offense while C.J. Mosley and Ed Stinson represented the defense. Landon Collins and Cody Mandell joined Jones on the special teams list.
Jones, who was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week and SEC Special Teams Player of the Week as well, totaled 256 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns against the Hokies. According to the Alabama record book dating back to 1944, Jones is the first player to score two non-offensive touchdowns in one game. He had a 72-yard punt return for a TD, a kickoff return for a score of 94 yards, along with a 38-yard TD catch. He is the first player in the FBS to have both a punt return and a kickoff return for a touchdown since 2006.
Steen was one of the three game captains and recorded the top grade on the offensive line. Stinson and Mosley were Alabama's top tacklers Saturday night with eight and seven total stops, respectively.
Stinson was credited with a tackle for loss and a half-sack. Mosley also had a key block well down the field on Jones' kickoff return for a touchdown. The Crimson Tide defense limited Virginia Tech to seven first downs, 212 total yards and 3-of-17 on third down conversions.
Collins recorded five tackles on special teams and participated on the kickoff, punt, and punt return units. He also forced a pair of fair catches on punt coverage.
Mandell had a solid day with nine punts for 418 yards for a 46.4 average. He had four punts inside the 20 and was also credited with a tackle on coverage.
