PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Many East Valley residents woke up to the sound of rain on their rooftops this morning. Heavy but short-lived thunderstorms developed early this morning, throughout parts of Chandler, Mesa, Apache Junction and Fountain Hills.
The monsoon moisture also moved across Phoenix and north into Anthem very early this morning. Along with the rain and lightning, winds picked up briefly where the thunderstorms developed.
The early afternoon hours will bring drier conditions but thunderstorms should start to pop up later today. Not only will monsoon moisture be present to the south of the Valley but a disturbance moving in from Texas will help to aid in thunderstorm development.
Blowing dust across the Valley is a possibility because of the outflow winds from the thunderstorms.
Conditions will stabilize a bit later this week and temperatures will rise. High temperatures Tuesday should reach 106 degrees out at Sky Harbor International Airport and the very warm weather will continue through Wednesday and Thursday, also.
The official end of the monsoon isn't until the end of September but the Valley will start to experience drier, more stable weather into the second week of September.
