(POOL/CNN) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie chose wisely: wife above politics.
He says he won't be able to meet with Kentucky Senator Rand Paul when he travels to the Garden State next week.
Christie said he has a short trip planned with his wife for her 50th birthday.
Paul and Christie engaged in a high profile, intraparty feud this summer over their differences on federal surveillance programs and government spending.
Paul, seeking to draw a cease-fire, offered to have a beer with Christie, but Christie said he was too busy.
Paul's campaign recently reached out to Christie's aides to try and arrange a meeting during Paul's trip to New Jersey this weekend.
