BROWN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the shooting death of a pregnant mother last week in Brown County.

Brown County Deputies were called to investigate a vehicle off the road in a wooded area between S.R. 125 and Laycock Road on US Rt. 68. It was reported August 28 around 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found 22-year-old Brittany Stykes and her 14-month-old daughter, Aubree, suffering from gunshot wounds in a yellow Jeep. Brittany Stykes was pronounced dead at the scene, and the toddler was immediately taken to Southwest Regional Medical Center for treatment.

According to the Brown County Coroner's autopsy report, Stykes was hit three times by two bullets. One bullet caused a minor neck wound, but the second caused a fatal chest wound and passed through Stykes' body and hit her right arm.

Stykes was also 17 weeks pregnant, and her death led to the death of her unborn child, according to the autopsy report.

Stykes was laid to rest Wednesday at the Saltair Church of Christ in Bethel, Ohio. Family members have said Aubree Stykes is talking and improving daily.

Deputies say the scene was processed, with personnel looking for evidence such as projectiles, shell casings, fingerprints, DNA, tire impressions and trace evidence such as hair and fibers.

According to a press conference held Wednesday by the Brown County Sheriff's Office, several items were found and have been sent to the State crime lab. In addition, the scene is also being reconstructed in hopes of filling in missing pieces of the puzzle.

Investigators believe the shooting took place between 7:30 - 8:05 p.m.

Anyone who has information, or who was in that area at that time and saw anything that might be helpful in the investigation, is asked to contact the Brown County Sheriff's Office for Det. Rick Haney at 937-378-4435 x 114, or Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.

Crime Stoppers has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the suspect.
