DA: suspect violated probation when she stole cop car

FAYETTEVILLE, TN (WAFF) -

In the hospital but soon off to jail. The Lincoln County district attorney confirmed to WAFF 48 News Misty Shelton is a patient at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Shelton is accused of stealing a Fayetteville, Tenn., police car before crashing it into an SUV and killing 55-year-old Henry Holt. Saturday's collision injured three other people inside the SUV.

Lincoln County District Attorney Robert Carter said Shelton also violated her probation when she stole the police car and crashed it.

Carter would not disclose why Shelton was on probation elaborate on the charges Shelton will face once she's released from the hospital and taken into custody.

On Tuesday, WAFF reached out to the Tennessee Highway Patrol to find out how the suspect commandeered the vehicle. The message to their public information office was not returned.
