TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's time for the City of Toledo to pay for emergency repairs made to the Detroit and Bancroft intersection.

When a sinkhole opened and swallowed a car at that intersection on July 3, there was serious damage to be repaired. New sewer lines were put in underground, and new pavement covered the massive hole.

A private contractor was brought in for the emergency repairs, and city council agreed Tuesday to pay the bill: $73,000, with money coming from the sewer operating fund.

Councilman Tyrone Riley says a lot has changed in his district since the day the ground opened up.

"That was the only bill that was before council today," Riley said. "We are hopeful that it doesn't cost any more than that. We are now looking at all sinkholes in the city, or potential sinkholes in the city, to make sure that the roads and highways are safe."

Labor performed by city workers on the sinkhole may cost the city about $27,000 more.
