Ashton Apartments fire ruled as arson

An early morning fire at the Ashton Apartments on Carmichael Road that left 4 buildings damaged has been ruled as arson by Montgomery Fire/Rescue.

Officials tell WSFA 12 News two of the apartment units were heavily damaged and the other two received light to moderate damage.

No injuries were reported.  According to officials any family displaced by the fire will receive assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is not the first fire at Ashton Apartments. In November 2012, the Red Cross helped place 30 residents in temporary housing after some units were destroyed. An investigation found that fire was caused when food was left unattended on a stove.
