WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) -

After thoughts of leaving for a job in Cincinnati, West Palm Beach Police Chief Vince Demasi will remain head of the department, said Mayor Jeri Muoio on Wednesday.

After only a year as chief, Demasi said in July he applied to be the head of the police department in Cincinnati.

Hired in June 2012, Demasi took over the police department in August 2012.

The chief had previously said his "dream job" was to lead the police department in the city of Cincinnati, where he rose through the ranks for 37 years.

Demasi, an Ohio native, oversees 276 police officers in West Palm Beach.
