LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The man who bought Liberace's home in Las Vegas said he plans to restore the property.
Built in the 1960s, the nearly 15,000-square-foot mansion still includes much of Liberace's personal flair, including several rooms adorned with large piano key decorations. The entertainer bought the house, located near the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the 1970s.
The house went on the market in June for a listing price of $529,000, which got the attention of Martyn Ravenhill, a British investor and life-long Liberace fan.
In an interview with FOX5, Ravenhill said he contacted the agent after the initial listing, but was told that an offer had already been made. He said that when he checked back in July, when the previous offer was supposed to close, he found that the deal had fallen through. He said he then flew to Las Vegas in early August, took a look around and made an offer of $500,000 cash.
Ravenhill said the house is in shambles and he knows Liberace would not want the once-immaculate home falling into disrepair.
"I'm definitely not tearing it down," Ravenhill said.
Ravenhill said he has been talking to the Liberace Foundation about what to do with the property. He said he plans to restore it, and become a place that can be shared with the public.
Realtors said the home was bank-owned and went into foreclosure in 2010.
The home sold for $3.7 million in 2006.
