Arrest made in Montgomery's 34th homicide of 2013

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Police Department says an arrest has been made in connection to the city's 34th homicide of 2013.

MPD detectives have charged 17-year-old Jacoby Foster, a Montgomery resident, with one count of murder in the death of 24-year-old Antavious Butler. Butler was killed on August 1.

Authorities served the arrest warrant against Foster at the Montgomery County Detention Facility where he was already being held on an unrelated offense. That offense, according to records, was for firing into an occupied dwelling or vehicle.

Bond in Foster's case is set at a total of $105,000, a combination of the two offenses with the murder bond being $75,000.

The homicide case started in the early morning hours of August 1 when police and medics were called to the 600 block of Groveland Drive on reports that shots had been fired. When units arrived, they found and pronounced Butler dead on the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities say The circumstances surrounding the shooting were initially unknown, but further investigation identified Foster as a suspect.

No additional suspects have been identified, according to authorities, but the homicide case remains under investigation.
