MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) -

Authorities in Millbrook continue their search for the motorist who hit a pedestrian and did not stop to help the man. Wednesday, Police Chief P.K. Johnson released new information about the vehicle that the public could use to help with the investigation.

Chief Johnson says evidence found at Sandtown Road and Abrams Drive where 44-year-old Roderick Reeves was critically injured indicate the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was a 2005-2007 Nissan Altima. The vehicle's color is not known.

"The vehicle in question should have damage to the front area of vehicle," Chief Johnson said. "Someone knows who did this. They may have witnessed the collision; or they may have heard someone talk about it. The person responsible may have simply panicked and left without reporting that there had been an accident."

Reeves was found lying in the roadway in the early morning hours of August 31. He was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition where he remains in the Serious Intensive Care Unit. His condition is currently listed as critical but stable. Authorities say Reeves has head and internal injuries as well as broken bones.

There have been no witnesses to the event.

Anyone that has any information with regard to this case is encouraged to call the Millbrook Police Department at (334) 285-6832, our Secret Witness Line (334) 285-8500 or Crime Stoppers.

"Mr. Reeves is a human being. Someone's father, son or loved one; yet he was left in the road for dead," Chief Johnson said. "I would ask anyone that may have information in this case to place themselves on the other side of this equation. What if it were you or your loved one? Would you not want someone to come forward for you?"

Chief Johnson said depending on the suspect's statement and other unknown factors, there are several combinations of charges that could be filed against the motorist including:

Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Failure to Render Aid

Assault 1st or 2nd Degree

The chief added "The fact that the victim sustained serious, in fact, life threatening injuries make the first two charges felony charges. Either assault charge would constitute a felony. The first two are Class C Felonies of which the sentencing guidelines are 1 year and 1 day up to 10 years. Assault 2nd is also classified as a Class C Felony. Assault 1st would be a Class B Felony, which constitutes 2 years to 20 years."
