Suspects sought after Macon Co. woman raped, beaten and robbed

MACON CO., AL (WSFA) -

There is an active search for two robbery and rape suspects in Macon County. The men broke into a woman's home early Tuesday morning, demanded money and then sexually assaulted the woman. The crime happened while the woman's young child was inside the home.

Sheriff's deputies are working to track down the men.

Macon County Road 9 between Shorter and the Hardaway community seems to be a peaceful area with several homes amid the rolling hills.

For one woman, early Tuesday around 4 a.m. the peaceful area became a horrifying nightmare. Sheriff David Warren says the suspects broke into the victim's home, demanded she give them money and then raped her. The suspects were said to have put the woman's young child in a rear bedroom of the home.

Sheriff Warren says the victim was injured, but survived the ordeal with scratches and bruises. Police say through the ordeal, she was also pistol whipped.

The sheriff says the victim was not able to get a good look at the assailants because they covered their faces. She remains in protective custody at an undisclosed location.

Authorities say they found the victim's vehicle on County Road 2 less than 10 miles from her home. The suspects are still on the loose.

Anyone who may have information that can help in the search is asked to call 334-727-2500.
