MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

September 11, 2001. Looking back, the day is a day of terror. But it's also a day of heroic response, and each day forward has been a day of preparedness. The month of September is National Preparedness Month, a time to honor first responders and remember to prepare for disasters as Alabamians and Americans.

Serve Alabama invites you to Ready Alabama Day, Wednesday, September 11th on the campus of Auburn University. Our 9/11 event is a part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance. At Ready Alabama Day, you'll meet local, state and federal first responders that serve our communities. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn more about how you and your family can prepare for disasters.

I'm Jon Mason, Director of Serve Alabama, the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Volunteer Service. For more information on Ready Alabama Day and building an emergency kit for your family, please visit ReadyAlabama.gov. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook at ReadyAlabama.
