MUNFORD, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Marine Corporal Christian Brown desperately wants to be back living in his hometown of Munford, Tennessee. But as a result of the injuries he sustained serving in Afghanistan, he will need a new, accessible house.

Right now, Cpl. Brown is still under the care of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

But Hollywood actor and musician Gary Sinise is hoping to help Cpl. Brown come home.

You might recognize Sinise for his role as Lt. Dan in "Forrest Gump" and Detective Mac Taylor in "CSI", but what you may not have known is that he is also a musician.

Sinise's band, appropriately named the Lt. Dan Band, is lending its talents to help injured Munford Marine Cpl. Christian Brown.

Lt. Dan Band will perform a special benefit concert for Cpl. Brown at Memphis Cook Convention Center November 1.

"I knew things were gonna be definitely different and in my consciousness, I knew I'd never the same," said Cpl. Brown, who stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) during combat in Afghanistan in December 2011. He was nearly killed.

Cpl. Brown sustained injuries to his hands, arms, and lost both legs in the explosion.

When he moves back home to Munford, he will have to have what is called a "smart home". Everything inside will be controlled using an iPad or smart phone.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is one of the groups sponsoring the project for Cpl. Brown.

"If he wants to cook, he presses a button and the counters come down with the sink and everything in it," explained John Hodge, Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Cpl. Brown says daily life will not be an issue in his new house.

"A lot of people like me struggle and battle with things that many think are trivial, like getting off the toilet and being able to reach a microwave," he explained.

Organizers say it will cost around $500,000 just to build the home. They are hoping the public will support the effort.

"We need sponsors, we need people to buy tickets, we need contractors, roofers," said organizer Chris Kuban.
