MCINTOSH CO., GA (WTOC) -

McIntosh County Sheriff Steve Jessup tells WTOC a McIntosh County Academy senior was charged with bringing an unloaded weapon to school on Thursday. However, investigators do not believe he is related to the online threat of a gun at school.

Thomas Stafford, 18, faces a misdemeanor charge after a search revealed Stafford had an unloaded shotgun in his truck.

Authorities had to shut down McIntosh County Academy early Thursday morning because of a possible threat of a gun on campus, but soon broadened to all schools in Darien.

Sheriff  Jessup said they got word from another Darien Police Department in Connecticut that there was a threat online of, "bringing a gun to the high school in Darien."

That put police departments in three U.S. cities on alert. Connecticut, Illinois and Georgia all have Darien Police Departments. Authorities are trying to determine which Darien was being referenced.

Jessup said the investigation continues into Thursday's online threat, and at this time, Stafford's arrested is not related in any way.

All McIntosh County students returned to class on Friday.
