Thunderstorms drench Tucson and leave a mark

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Thunderstorms that swept across Tucson Friday filled roads like Oracle Road with water and flooded intersections such as Alvernon and Grant. But their most lasting impression had to be a metal roof ripped off of the hay barn on the northeast side.

"Just caught it underneath that. It was like a sail, took it off. That's pretty heavy stuff and when you've got winds that fast, it'll sail it," said neighbor Gerald Beiner.

"Shocked, surprised. You go see what you're used to seeing as a big barn with a roof and now I'm looking at a hay barn with no roof. And the size of the roof is a pretty good size. And I'm thinking, 'where is the roof?'" said Tanque Verde Hay Feed and Supply co-owner Frank Dean Moreno, Junior.

Not until after the storm did Moreno find most of the roof to his a barn in the intersection of Tanque Verde and Tanque Verde Loop roads.  He was concerned about possible injuries and damage to cars but found none.

"Miraculously, there wasn't. It was very surprising at the time of day that it happened because there's such a high volume of traffic there and near that school when it gets out that near that time," Moreno said.

While he was unsure about how long repairs to his hay barn would take, he said that the store would be open on Saturday morning.
