A group of Olathe residents say they're trying to save their neighborhood.
It is a debate that's been raging for years. Developers have been fighting with local authorities over their plans for the property since 1995.
That debate continued Monday night before a standing room only crowd. Dozens of homeowners turned out to voice their opposition to the Wheatley Hills development near West 143 Street and South Pflumm Road.
It is a plan that calls for about 250 new homes along with what is called "light intensity commercial space," including a bank with a drive-through option.
The piece of land is unique in that is needs approval from four government groups: the city planning commission, city council, the Johnson County Airport Board and the county commission.
One homeowner said he had a lot of concerns, but traffic tops the list.
"Well if they're typical houses, each house is going to have two cars, and they're going to come in and out three or four times a day. So that is a good thousands of vehicles on our roads that there is no where for them to go," Tom Kane said.
The developers say they have bent over backwards to accommodate everyone.
The plan originally called for about 450 new homes, but they have since cut that number in half to appease neighbors. They vow to keep working towards a solution.
