KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

American country singer-songwriter Vince Gill was in Kansas City, but prior to performing on stage, he decided to answer to some members of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Gill was in Kansas City Sunday for a performance at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts, and according to a video of the encounter posted to YouTube, WBC picketed him because they said he is an adulterer.

Rather than just stand by letting the group shout what they would, Gill decided to confront them.

A warning: there is language used in the video that some may consider offensive.

"I just came to see what hate looked like," he said in the video.

Turns out members of WBC didn't approve of Gill's 1998 divorce and following marriage to singer/songwriter Amy Grant, calling it adultery.

"Don't you know that divorce plus remarriage equals adultery? Jesus Christ said that," one protester said.

"You know what else he [Jesus] said … about forgiveness, about grace, you guys don't have any of that," Gill responded.

The Westboro Baptist Church has picketed many other events, including Taylor Swift concerts and military funerals.

According to their website, they also plan to picket the Mumford and Sons concert on Sept. 20 at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre.
