Former Auburn Tiger Demond Washington has been named the Canadian Football League (CFL) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the league announced on Tuesday.

Washington, who played at Auburn from 2009-10, recorded a game-high seven tackles with stop special teams stops, a sack and a fumble recovery as his Winnipeg Blue Bombers knocked off the Rough Riders, 25-13, in the Banjo Bowl.

Washington was able to hop on a fumble forced by teammate Pierre-Luc Labbé and return it two yards, which led to a touchdown that gave the Blue Bombers a 23-13 advantage. He is second on the Blue Bombers this season in tackles (47), tied for first with interceptions (1) and fifth in sacks (2.0).

The Tallassee, Ala.-native is in his second year in the CFL with the Blue Bombers. Washington has totaled 77 tackles, four interceptions and two sacks in his CFL career.
