LIBERTY, MO (KCTV) -

A Northland homeowner who fatally shot a man who broke into his garage during a crime spree has officially been cleared.

Jim Roberts, a spokesman for the Clay County prosecutor's office, said the office has officially closed the case.

"Your actions were lawful," Clay County Prosecutor Dan White wrote the homeowner this week. ""Defending your family and yourself from an aggressor is a bedrock principle of the law, and your actions were all legal and fully justified."

The homeowner, his wife and baby were in their bedroom when they heard a crash in the garage. The homeowner grabbed his shotgun and fatally shot Christopher Robinson, 30, of Kansas City, KS.

Robinson, who had battled drug issues, had stolen multiple vehicles, robbed a person and drove a vehicle through a garage door during his two-hour crime spree last month.
