JACKSON COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

It was a gruesome discovery early Saturday morning at the scene of a crash when firefighters found two people dead inside a burning vehicle.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office identified the driver as 21-year-old Dustin A. Morton, of Lee's Summit, and passenger, 21-year-old Kylan P. Farris, also of Lee's Summit.

The one-car wreck happened just after 12:30 a.m. at Milton Thompson Road north of Langsford Road.

The sheriff's office got a call of someone driving recklessly just north of the wreck site in the area of M-7 Highway and Liggett Road in Blue Springs. A few minutes later another call came in of a car on fire.

Deputies said the two were last seen leaving a Blue Springs business moments before the crash. Alcohol and speed are contributing factors in the crash, Sgt. Ronda Montgomery said.

Authorities found the car upside down and on fire on Milton Thompson Road about a mile north of U.S. Highway 50, just east of Lee's Summit in unincorporated Jackson County.

Initial investigation shows the vehicle was traveling southbound on Milton Thompson Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, went off the east side of the roadway, struck a large rock and ultimately overturned.
