COLLINSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The 11th annual Collinsville Quilt Walk will feature the history of families and more. Library Director Jennifer Wilkins points out unusual quilts which will be on display.

Her son, young Zackary Wilkins, is lending one of his prized possessions to the cause. It has his picture in the center. "My aunt made it for me. I was at a costume party. I decided to dress up as a cowboy," he said.

This year there is something new for doll lovers. It's a rag doll show, and the public can enter "heritage dolls." There is even a contest. Margaret Goldthreat's sister designed a line long ago. "She started making this line of dolls and she made them for 6 years," said Goldthreat.

Quilts are on display at several locations where you can see older homes and antiques.

And old friend of 'Bobby's Bama,' champion quilter Anne Barrett, showed us a 'double wedding ring.' "It's a copy of one that's in a museum in Vermont," she said.

Old Grove native Barrett said intricate designs take a while to make. "This one took about six months from the beginning to the end of the quilting process."

Donations from the quilt walk go to the library. "All the money that's raised from the quilt walk goes into our building fund, and it is the biggest fundraiser we have year after year," said Wilkins.

She said some of these designs were made in the 1800's. "Well you see some beautiful handiwork on the front but the back, some are made with feed sacks that still have the imprint from the feed company on them."

There is one section of the quilt walk that some people might describe as being "spooktackular". That's because it's in the town's original graveyard.

But Wilkins said there is no reason to be frightened. "I think they really fit in this cemetery, that was opened in 1877 and was used for about 20 years. It was the first official town cemetery as part of the Baptist church."

You can honestly say when it comes to quilt shows, this one is original.

"If you like antiques, you like old homes and you like award winning quilts you need to come see our show," declared Wilkins.

A must see in Bobby's Bama.
