AUSTIN, TX -

(WMC-TV) - The Ole Miss student attacked while in Austin, Texas for a football game has come out of a coma and could be moved from the Intensive Care Unit Tuesday.

Carson Otter, a management information systems major at University of Mississippi, was punched in the face after reportedly exchanging words with some people in a passing vehicle. The punch was enough to send Otter to the hospital and into surgery. The attack happened at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, the morning before Ole Miss defeated the Texas Longhorns 44-23.

Austin Police Department Commander Jason Dusterhoft said they have some "good leads", but they do not have any evidence that suggests the punch was related to the football rivalry.

Dusterhoft says that video from a nearby camera reveals that neither Otter nor the suspect were wearing Ole Miss or Texas clothing and no words were exchanged about the rivalry.

"We are as a university doing everything we can to support them through prayers and good wishes," said Ole Miss Dean of Students Sparky Reardon.

In addition to being a student in the University of Mississippi School of Business Administration, Otter is a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
