GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

Six people have been charged in connection to a deadly drive-by shooting in Gadsden from last month.

Billy Baker, 51, and Jabari Sultan Player, 35, were fatally shot on the east end of the Meighan Blvd. bridge in the early morning hours of Aug. 17.

Police said they were in a Nissan Stanza when another car pulled up and opened fire. Baker and Player, both from Gadsden, died at the scene.

Wednesday, Gadsden authorities announced they've charged four people with capital murder in the slayings. Two women were also charged with hindering prosecution in the case.

The suspects charged are:

-Errik Laderron Hughley, 24, of Gadsden – charged with capital murder and theft of property first degree

-Willie O'Bryant Mosley, 23, of Prichard—charged with capital murder and hindering prosecution first degree

-Cedric Orland Young, 27, of Gadsden—charged with capital murder, attempted murder, buying /receiving stolen property and discharging a firearm into an occupied building

-Cordaryl Craig, 25, of Birmingham - charged with capital murder

-Kendra Lashay Leach, 28, of Gadsden—charged with hindering prosecution first degree

-Leshonda Donylal Reeves, 38, of Gadsden—charged with hindering prosecution first degree

Etowah County District Attorney Jimmie Harp says the evidence shows all four men were in the same car the night the two victims were shot.

"This was a terrible act that shocked this community," Harp said. He described the suspects as "dangerous individuals."

Harp said the community called in any tidbit of information about the case and pointed police to stores where they could view surveillance video.

"This community basically sent a message that we're not going to surrender where we live, and where we go to church, and where our kids go to school, and where we carry out our daily lives, we're not going to surrender that to folks who want to go out and commit violent acts," Harp said.

Gadsden's police chief John Crane also gave the community credit for helping them make these arrests.

"Most of all, it was the community that we reached out to, came up to the line, gave us what we needed, and for that, to have the community that we want to have, we've got to have that kind of involvement," Crane said.

Harp also believes the case is related to the shooting death of Willie Brown five days later on Kentucky Ave. in east Gadsden. Brown was shot to death in the driveway of his own home.

Harp says these were not random acts, they were "specific targets for specific behavior."

Five of the suspects are being held in the Etowah County Jail. Cordaryl Craig is currently being tranpsported to the Etowah County Jail from Birmingham.

The four men charged with capital murder are being held without bond. The female suspects, Reeves and Leach, are being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
