JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Some Jefferson County mayors want to put the brakes on Jefferson County's plan to end bus service for the elderly and disabled.

Jefferson County Manager Tony Petelos has announced plans to shift funds going to support Clastran over to the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority. Today, the Jefferson County Mayor's Association heard from Petelos. The county manager said the change would be more cost efficient and would allow more funding to expand the existing service.

But, county mayors are not so sure.

"Once we hear information and information has leaked out something is going to be changed that is not broke in our eyes why are you going to fix it? It's very simple. We need more information," Hueytown Mayor Delor Baumann said.

Petelos admits the county moved too quickly with the possible change. The county was hoping to have the transit authority to take over the bus service by November but Petelos said that may be moved to next year.
