TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

Residents living on County Road 9 near Shorter in Macon County are still on edge two weeks after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted during a home invasion.

Now there is reason to feel encouraged.

WSFA 12 News has learned Macon County and ABI investigators are questioning two people who might have a connection to the case. This is the most significant development since the crime happened. Authorities declined to say anything more than that.

"This is very encouraging and I'm anxious to find out why this happened," said Lorna Aho, who lives on County Road 9.

The crime shocked everyone. Deputies say two suspects broke into the woman's home around 4 in the morning. One man reportedly scooped up her personal items such as a TV, a laptop and cash while the other allegedly sexually assaulted her. We're told this went on while the woman's 4-year old son was in the back bedroom.

As for the crime victim 12 News has learned the woman continues to recover and is still staying with family and friends outside of Macon County.

Since the home invasion and rape residents have met at least once to talk about strengthening what is now a loosely organized neighborhood watch program.
