TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Police arrested a Sierra Vista man charged with multiple burglaries and weapon violations.

Property Crimes Unit detectives identified 40-year-old Michael "Cornbread" Benjamin as a suspect who allegedly targeted multiple homes during the day. Police said he followed a routine of ringing doorbells, followed by using pry tools to force entry into the residence and then collect valuables.

Detectives served a search warrant on September 18 at his motel room in the 5100 block of E. Highway 90. Evidence found inside the room connected him to the string of burglaries, according to department officials.

Among the evidence were three guns the Cochise County Sheriff's Department reported stolen during a burglary on September 17. A fourth gun, described as a Walther P99 semi-automatic compact pistol, is still missing. They believe it may have been sold.

Benjamin was booked into the Cochise County Jail and charged with two counts of burglary and six counts of misconduct involving weapons that police said are based on prior felony convictions. Cochise County also issued a warrant for Benjamin for failure to appear. He is being held on $75,000 bond.

The Sierra Vista Police Department asks anyone who purchased a gun from a private individual to contact the department to make sure the gun is not stolen. The department can be reached at (520) 452-7500.
