Police close string of Madison area burglary cases

MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

A string of burglary cases in Madison have been closed, after Huntsville Police arrest a man for similar crimes.

46-year-old Robert Jarvis from New Market, AL is charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft.

Investigators say he broke into homes under construction and stole brand new kitchen appliances.

Huntsville Police arrested Jarvis after a short stakeout at a used appliance store. When Madison Police heard of the arrest, they began comparing similarities between the cases and were able to connect Jarvis to the crimes in Madison.

Madison investigators say Jarvis stole $8,000 worth of new kitchen appliances from homes still under construction. The burglaries happened at the end of August and beginning of September.

Homes on New Bristol Lane and Hardiman Place Lane were hit. Those homes are in subdivisions off County Line Road, within the Madison City limits of Limestone County.

Investigators say construction crews reported the missing appliances. Police are now working to recover them.

"The financial burden of this typically falls back on the builder. Of course, once they contact us we put extra patrols in the area and we try to patrol as best we can, but there are so many new subdivisions and so many new houses under construction that it is difficult to do," explained Lt. Terrell Cook with the Madison Police Department.

Huntsville Police say Jarvis was selling the stolen items to a used appliance store. Madison Police believe he was doing the same with the items stolen in Madison.
