HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Congressman Mo Brooks spoke at the Republican Men's Club of Huntsville Saturday morning. When asked about a possible government shutdown over healthcare reform, Brooks said the will of the people and those of Democrats are in contrast.

"President Obama and the Democrats in the United States Senate, and the Democrats in the House of Representatives want a government shutdown because they believe it will help them win elections in 2014," Brooks said.

"I don't know a single Republican that wants a government shutdown," he continued. "We want to take into account the will of the American people, [which is] that it is going to cost American lives and it's going to cost money we don't have, and it's going to increase our deficit and debt."

Rep. Brooks added that it is completely up to the Senate to avoid a shutdown. He said all they have to do is pass the appropriations bills that the House already approved.
