MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Authorities are still looking for an armed robbery suspect in Madison County. Investigators said he assaulted a cashier and stabbed another employee while attempting to rob Moore's Mill Grocery Friday afternoon. The man took off in a black, older-model Nissan Maxima.

Tabitha Townsend was working behind the deli counter when she heard yelling at the front of the store. She looked up and saw a man shoving her cousin, who was working at the register.

Her cousin said the man lunged across the counter and demanded money, which is when Townsend's brother rushed over to help. The two began fighting; the robber pulled out a knife and stabbed her brother in the abdomen and then took off. Townsend said he didn't get away with a dime.

None of the employees recognized the man, but witnesses said he lives in the area.

"It's kind of scary, knowing that he is on the loose, and he could hurt somebody else because he did come in with a knife," said Townsend. "I just hope they catch him as fast as possible, before he tries to rob somebody else, or somebody gets hurt or killed."

Townsend's brother's injuries were not life-threatening. She and the other employees returned to work Saturday. She said the incident has left them all shaken up, and that she looks up immediately each time she hears someone come through the door.

The family-owned business is asking anyone who knows the identity of the man to contact authorities immediately.
