TARRANT, AL (WBRC) -

A Tarrant teenager was taken to the hospital after being tased by Tarrant police.

A spokesperson for the department says the incident happened Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Auburn Avenue and Waverly Street.

Officials say two officers were going to serve a warrant when they saw two young men walking down the street.

One of them, a 16-year-old, allegedly dropped a gun and then stuffed it back into his pants. When the officers approached, the two teens ran.

The officers caught up with the young men and as they tried to arrest the teens, the 16-year-old resisted. That's when he was tased.

Police say because the teen was armed and resisting arrest, the force officers used was justified.
