Ice Cube named 2013 Magic City Classic ambassador

Popular rapper, actor and movie producer - Ice Cube - has been named the 2013 Magic City Classic ambassador!

Rapper, actor and movie producer/director Ice Cube (O'Shea Jackson) has been named ambassador for the 2013 State Farm Magic City Classic, which will take place on Oct. 26.

As Magic City Classic ambassador, Ice Cube will greet fans at the McDonald's Magic City Classic Parade in downtown Birmingham.

Ice Cube first gained notoriety as a rapper and songwriter with the influential group N.W.A. He quit the group in 1990 and began a still-growing list of commercially and critically acclaimed solo albums.

He made his acting debut in the John Singleton movie, "Boyz N The Hood" (1991), which drew its name from an early N.W.A. song. Solid reviews for Ice Cube's performance led to a long list of movie roles, including "Trespass," "Higher Learning" the 1995 hit comedy, "Friday," which he wrote and produced.

In 1998, Ice Cube added directing to his list of accomplishments with "The Players Club," for which he also served as screenwriter and executive producer, as well as played a supporting role as Reggie.

Ice Cube went on to produce sequels to "Friday" and starred in "All About the Benjamins," "Three Kings," "Ghosts of Mars," "Barbershop," "Barbershop 2: Back in Business," "Torque," "XXX: State of the Union," "Dangerous Ground" and "Anaconda." He also branched out into family movies with "Are We There Yet?" and "Are We Done Yet?"

His 2010 documentary "Straight Outta L.A.," which he made as part of ESPN's "30 for 30" series examined the relationship between sports and hip-hop culture in Los Angeles at the height of N.W.A.'s success.

Recent Magic City Classic ambassadors include Bootsy Collins (2012), Lisa Raye McCoy (2011), Wendy Williams (2010) and Vivica A. Fox (2008).
