BUCKEYE, AZ (CBS5) -

A 22-year-old Buckeye woman armed with a shotgun was shot to death after she confronted a man as a party at her house was breaking up early Wednesday morning.

Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrested one man in connection with the shooting, according to an MCSO spokesman.

People were leaving the party about 4:30 a.m. when the woman went outside with the shotgun and faced the man, the spokesman said.

The man pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots at her, the spokesman said.

She died at a Valley hospital, the spokesman said.

Three people were originally detained by deputies the house near 203rd Avenue and Ray Road in a remote area of Maricopa County, the spokesman said.

Deputies were continuing their investigations and trying to determine a motive, but said the shooting was not the result of a romantic relationship.
