Woman drags 93-year-old across parking lot in attempted theft

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police are trying to catch two women they say tried to rob a 93-year-old woman.

Both the victim and her 75-year-old younger brother put up a fight, and police say one of the suspects got away wearing only her bra.

Although they didn't want to reveal their identities for safety, the victim's brother says he wants people to hear their story. He says he and his sister have a weekly routine: Church, dinner out, then shopping. But as they headed to their car in a Kroger parking lot, something out of the ordinary happened.

"This lady came running up to us and grabbed my sister's purse," he said. "Well, my sister wouldn't let go. [She's a] tough lady."

Police say the woman dragged the victim across the parking lot in an attempt to separate her from her purse.

"She was literally dragged maybe 20 or 25 feet, so I was going after this lady, because I seen it was a tug-of-war between this lady and my sister," the brother said. "I grabbed the lady by the shoulders and tried to hold on to her, and she literally slipped out of her sweatshirt and T-shirt."

Shirtless and purse-less, the suspect hopped into a running car and got away – but not before the driver attempted to show a little compassion.

"She rolls down her window and she says to me, ‘Is the lady okay, sir?'" the brother said. "And I say, ‘Of course not! She's laying there in, like, a fetal position.'"

Anyone with information on the two thieves should call Crimestopper at 419-255-1111.
