PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix fire investigators are looking into a string of suspicious overnight fires in the city.

The fires included three overnight car fires and an apartment fire within a half-mile radius.

The fires were reported between 28th and 36th streets and between Thomas and Indian School roads, said Phoenix Fire Capt. Larry Nunez.

The fires all broke out between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Thursday, after a fire in a carport at 30th Street and Osborne Road. Firefighters said the flames were contained before they spread to the house.

All the fires were called suspicious by investigators.

Nunez said the fires were troubling because residents are at greater danger because they are asleep during the early morning hours. He said Phoenix police had been patrolling the area and called in at least two of the fires.

Nunez said anyone with information about the fires is asked to call 602-26-ARSON.

Police said a fifth fire was reported in the area of 21st Street and Palm Lane about 6 a.m. Authorities later ruled it was not related to others.
