3 members of Du Quoin family will need life saving transplant

DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) -

There is an effort going on Thursday to help a Du Quoin family.

Three of four members of the James family were diagnosed with the same hereditary disorder.

Doctors say mom Gretchen and her two children Dawson and Olivia will eventually require a life-saving bone marrow transplant. But all three are still looking for a suitable match.

The James family says they've been through a lot with the diagnosis.

"Knowing that your kids have something that you cant control it kind of makes you scared because there is nothing you can do about it," says James.

A tough reality, eventually each of them will need a bone marrow transplant.

"it's great that many people cared to come out and help us and other people," says Gretchen James.

"We are trying to get the word out so that people can come and get signed up and maybe when it comes time where we have to have that, that we will find a good donor," says Frankie James.

But the James family has been able to remain positive through it all with help of family and friends.

"Got off of work, got in the car, drove 8 1/2 hours, slept three hours and I'm here, family is worth it," says Robin Meyers.

A "Be the Match" Donor Drive is going on Thursday at Marshall Browning hospital and will last until 8 p.m.

They're looking for healthy people between the ages of 18- 44.

All you need to do is let nurses swab your cheek, and you'll be entered into the system.

While you're there you can also give blood at a Red Cross Blood Drive.
