BUTLER CO., AL (WSFA) -

There's new information about a suspect would was captured on the run on Friday in Butler County. Sheriff Kenny Harden says suspect Antonio Beverly is now formally charged with 1st and 2nd degree burglary and three counts of unlawful breaking into a vehicle.

Beverly allegedly stole a high-powered rifle and pickup truck from a poultry farm in McKenzie before later being captured approximately 12 miles away.

The motive in the case is still unknown and Beverly remains in the Butler County Jail under bonds totaling $180,000.

What happened Friday in Butler County hit too close to home for Robert Hasley. Hasley lives 12 miles from Greenville. Directly behind Hasley's home a good ways, a K-9 officer ordered suspect Antonio Beverly out of a muddy pond.

"My brother came and got me and said police were looking for a man around and I said, 'Okay!,' said Hasley.

Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden says the situation unfolded Friday morning around 7:00 with a frantic phone call; a stolen truck along with a stolen high-powered rifle.

"We got the call from a resident in McKenzie who worked at a chicken house. The employee followed him," said Harden.

Heading north, Beverly encountered a deputy from nearby Covington County.

"That deputy fired several shots after Beverly refused to put down the gun. The next call we get Beverly wrecked the truck on Dogwood Trail and when I got to the scene, the employee who had been following him said he got out and fled in the woods with the weapon," said Harden.

After the 27-year-old suspect surrendered, authorities found the stolen weapon close by in the woods. It was loaded this morning, empty when they found it two hours later.

"Somewhere along the way he fired the rifle," said Harden.

The sheriff says Beverly confessed to the crimes but did not say why he committed them. The suspect told authorities is from Tallahassee, Florida.

As for Robert Hasley, he is thankful and relieved the drama is over.
