APACHE JUNCTION, AZ (AP) -

Apache Junction has a 97 percent rate for sex offenders who are compliant with their registration, federal authorities said.

That compares to the national average of about 80 percent compliance.

The U.S. Marshals Service has investigated and pursued non-compliant sex offenders since a child protection act was signed into law in 2006.

The agency partnered with Apache Junction police last week for "Operation Desert Vigilance."

Officers contacted 112 registered sexual offenders living in Apache Junction over a three-day period.

Four sex offenders were found not to be in compliance or had arrest warrants or had committed other crimes.

Authorities say two men were arrested for sex offender registration violations, one was taken into custody for possession of narcotics and outstanding warrants and another man was arrested on outstanding warrants.
