MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Researchers at St. Jude Children's Hospital are announcing a big discovery.

Doctors said they have discovered a screening method aimed at bone marrow transplants in cancer patients.

This procedure will bring in "natural killer" cells which will help the body fight cancer and other viral infections.

Back in 2008, the survival rate for bone marrow transplants was only 30-40 percent. In 2013, that rate has improved to 70-80 percent.

The new screening method will work to pair the best possible donors with the patient.
