SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Louisiana preacher is being remembered this week after being fatally shot in his own church as he delivered the sermon.  Witnesses say former deacon and church member Woodrow Karey come through the doors and fired three shots.

Two shots hit Pastor Ronald Harris Sr., killing him.  His daughter Talisha Harris witnessed the crime. "He got over him again and shot him again and kind of stood there again to watch him take his last breath."

Pastor Ed Gonzalez of Linwood Baptist Church says he was also faced with a potential life or death situation from someone who walked in his church and threatened his life.

"He walked in my office and told me God told him to take me out," says Gonzalez.

The man eventually backed away, but Gonzalez says it's situations like these that prove that churches are soft targets, which is why he and several other members can be found with two weapons against evil close by on Sundays. A bible and a fire arm.

Gonzalez says, "Pastors need to awake and realize that we live in a world of turmoil, hatred and bitterness so they have to do something to protect those sheep."

Gonzalez also says all the concealed carriers in his church are properly licensed. "As long as there is sin on this earth we're going to have violence"

It's the same violence Talisha Harris now his etched in her memories. "The kids were screaming. People were screaming they were under the pews," says Harris. "I wish I probably would have to hold that I loved him but we're going to make it."

Though there has been no official motive for the shooting, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso says the wife of the man accused of shooting Pastor Harris filed a rape complaint against him last on September 25th.  Two days before he was gunned down.
