Ozark Police say the 15-year-old suspect in the shooting of a 12-year-old Wednesday night is being charged with attempted murder and possession of marijuana 2nd degree.

Police are not releasing the suspect's name because of his status as a minor.

The shooting happened on Briarhill Court just before 9 p.m. where law enforcement found the 12-year-old suffering from a small caliber gunshot wound to the mouth. Investigators say the shooting was intentional.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Dale Medical Center for what were, surprisingly, non-life-threatening injuries. Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey said it's a miracle the victim was not killed.

Investigators were tasked with finding the 15-year-old suspect and through witness interviews located him at a home on Westview Street.

Agents with the Wiregrass Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force made the arrest. The suspect was then released to the Alabama Department of Youth Services and placed in the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center.

A motive for the shooting was not known. An investigation into the case continues.
