SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) -

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones confirms that a 13-year-old Smiths Station student was hit by a car in the parking lot of the junior high school this morning, October 3.

The accident happened at approximately 7 a.m. as students were arriving for class.

Jones says the student was taken to a local hospital. He may have a broken leg, but is expected to be fine.

Jones also says this was an accident, and the driver does not face any charges.
